About the IRCA

The Istead Rise Community Centre was established in response to the growing social needs of the local community during the rapid development of the 1960s and 70s. In 1976, the Istead Rise Association successfully lobbied Gravesham Borough Council for additional social facilities, leading to planning permission being granted in 1979. The centre officially opened its doors on November 29, 1980, funded by a variety of sources, including contributions from local residents.

As the community's needs evolved, the organization became the Istead Rise Community Association (IRCA), reflecting a broader scope of responsibility. In 1986, an extension was added, featuring a new lounge bar, stage, and storage facilities. However, in March 2007, a fire caused significant damage during a burglary. By 2008, rebuilding efforts commenced to restore the centre to its original state.

The Community Centre continued to expand, with a large extension completed in 2016 that introduced a games room equipped with a pool table and two electronic dart boards, easily accessible from the main bar area. Today, the Istead Rise Community Centre remains a vibrant hub for social activities, fostering community spirit and engagement.
